In The News 6/30/2008 Barry and Cynthia joined legendary songwriters, Hal David, Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, Alan Bergman, Paul Williams, Melissa Manchester, Charles Fox and Bill Withers and special guest artists, Steve Tyrell and Korie Withers in performing at the "The Songs Of Our Lives" benefit concert at The Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles. The concert benefited The Fulfillment Fund. The Fund works to help disadvantaged students graduate from high school, helps them successfully complete college and transition into the working world. 8/27/2007 The world premiere of "MASK", a new musical based on the 1985 Peter Bogdanovich film of the same name, with an original score by Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil will take place March 14, 2008 at the Pasadena Playhouse. The book is by Anna Hamilton Phelan, screenwriter of the film. Multi Tony award winner, Richard Maltby, Jr will direct. The show will run through April 13. 3/12/07 NEWSFLASH Barry and Cynthia are proud to announce that their daughter, Dr. Jenn Berman (www.DoctorJenn.com), will be releasing her first book, "The A to Z Guide for Raising Happy, Confident Kids" on April 28th. The book is available for pre-order at bookstores or on www.barnesandnoble.com and www.amazon.com. Dr. Jenn has made appearances on over 100 TV shows including "The Today Show", "Oprah" and "48 Hours". Her column for "LA Family Magazine" won the 2005 Silver Medal in Parenting and Child Development from the Parenting Publications of America. 3/12/07 Barry's photo "Pauline/Pompeii" was chosen to be included in an exhibition created by THE CENTER FOR FINE ART PHOTOGRAPHY, called "The Art Of Digital Imagery". Of the 1300 applicants only 50 were chose. The exhibition opens on June 15th in Fort Collins, Colorado. 1/26/07 Barry's newest photography exhibit, "Uncovering The Essence" will open at the California Modern Art Gallery in San Francisco on February 23, 2007. Click to view the invitation and information. 8/30/06 Barry will be part of a two person photography show entitled "Through The Lens" at the La Fuer Gallery, 228 South Robertson Blvd., Beverly Hills, Ca. 90211. The show will run from October 1st to October 28th. Barry will be present at a reception which will be held on October 14th from 6PM -10PM. 6/18/06 The Stranger Game, written by Cynthia and Judy Skelton airs on Lifetime TV. Sunday, June 18, 2006.
3/13/06 A movie of the week suspense thriller called The Stranger Game, written by Cynthia and Judy Skelton, and starring Mimi Rogers, begins filming this week in Vancouver. It will air on Lifetime in the spring. Barry’s large photographs will be part of a group show at the Satsuma Gallery, 5447 Satsuma Ave, North Hollywood, Ca from April 20 to June 1, 2006. 11/1/05 Barry and Cynthia are one of the seven songwriting teams chronicled in Ken Emerson's book "Always Magic In The Air: The Bomp and Brilliance of the Brill Building Era". Emerson manages to combine bios, gossip, music analysis, and social history into a fun and fascinating read. 5/12/05 On June 9th, 2005, Barry and Cynthia's song "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling" will be honored with the Towering Song Award at the Songwriter's Hall of Fame 36th Annual Awards Dinner in New York City. 2/26/05 On 2/25/05 Barry performed at The Whisky a Go-Go in concert for one amazing night with the legendary, yet somehow forgotten, cult rockers "THE POSSIBILITIES", along with guest stars Carole King, Paul Williams and Gary Burr. On Nov 17, 2004, Barry and Cynthia co-host the CBS-Fm Morning Show with Mike Fitzgerald. They will be playing their own favorite songs and the ones they wish they’d written, sharing demos, song stories and fielding phone calls. Click here for excerpts from the show. 9/04 – "Remember" written by Cynthia and James Horner for the film "Troy", was nominated for The World Soundtrack Award as "Best Original Song Written Directly For A Film." 5/04 – Cynthia's lyrics appear in two major motion pictures opening this spring. She collaborated with John Williams on "A Winter's Spell" which appears in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and wrote the end title song, "Remember" for the epic film Troy with composer, James Horner. "Remember" is performed by Josh Groban and appears in both in the film and soundtrack recording. 12/03 – Barry and Cynthia will be performing in a new musical based on their catalogue of hit songs entitled THEY WROTE THAT? The show will have a limited engagement beginning January 15, 2004 in New York City at the McGinn/Cazale Theater, Broadway and 76th Street, directly above The Promenade Theater. Show times are Tuesday-Friday at 8PM, Saturday at 2 and 8PM and Sunday at 3PM. The show is being directed by Tony award winning director, Richard Maltby, Jr. and produced by James B. In 2000 "YOU'VE LOST THAT LOVIN' FEELING" was named the most performed song of the twentieth century and the most performed song in the BMI catalogue. It has garnered more than ten million performances to date, the first BMI song ever to achieve that milestone. If played back to back for 24 hours a day, this would equal 56 years of continuous airplay (Click on the thumbnail on the left for the article.) 12/03 – On December 11, 2003, Barry and Cynthia were honored by the New York Chapter of The Recording Academy with the New York Heroes Award. The award was presented to them by Paul Shaffer. This honor is given to those who have made significant contributions to the New York music community. The other honorees included Ruben Blades, Daryl Hall and John Oates, Francis Preston and Nile Rogers. The evening was hosted by Dominic Chianese (Uncle Junior of The Sopranos). Proceeds from the event benefited arts and education programs in the New York schools. (Click on the thumbnail on the left for a larger version.) 10/03 – On Sunday, October 26, 2003, Barry and Cynthia were among the legendary songwriters performing some of their greatest hits at "The Songwriters Salon" benefiting TRIPOD, an organization aiding hearing impaired children and their families. The group included Carole King, Marilyn and Alan Bergman, Richard Marx, Steven Bishop, Richard M. Sherman, Tom Kelly and Billy Steinberg. David Pomeranz and Bruce Roberts. 7/29/02 - Mann and Weil were interviewed by Steve Sailor of United Press International. The interview is posted on the UPI website at http://www.upi.com/view.cfm?StoryID=20020722-064603-2009r. 7/27/02 – John Williams asked Cynthia to write lyrics to his composition "Song For World Peace" from his "American Journey" Sony Classical album. The song "One World" was performed on July 27,2002 by the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra (conducted by John Williams) and a one hundred voice choir. 7/04/02 – Back in 1992, John Williams asked Mann and Weil to write a song in honor of "America's 100th birthday" to be performed by the Boston Pops Orchestra, conducted by John. The song, "Celebrate America" was performed on July 4, 1992 at the Hatch Shell in Boston. Dan Hill was the vocalist accompanied by the Pops Orchestra and a two hundred voice choir. In addition to the audience, 250,000 people lined the Charles River for the event. When Disney Records decided to release an album commemorating the emotions inspired by September 11th, Jay Lander, President of the company, who was familiar with the song, contacted Barry. The album entitled, "CELEBRATE AMERICA" was released on July 4,2002 and features Barry singing the song "Celebrate America", produced by Barry Mann and Stephan Oberhoff. Other featured artists include Willie Nelson and SheDaisy. 11/03/02 – Mann and Weil were honored at the Taxi songwriter convention. They spoke before and audience of 1700 people and were presented with The Inspiration Award. 8/27/01 - Mann and Weil were featured in A&E television's two-hour biography of The Brill Building along with Carole King, Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller and other well-known writers of that period. The program was rerun on September 13th and continues to be shown. 6/29/01 – The soundtrack of Steven Speilberg's A.I. includes two versions of the song "For Always", written by Cynthia and Famed composer John Williams. Based on John's theme for A.I. it is performed by Lara Fabian and as a duet with Lara and Josh Groban. 5/2001 – Mann and Weil were interviewed on NPR's "Fresh Air".
